Rondi’s Top Fave List-Style-outs 2012

1) The Urban Wave
A beachy wave, barely there curls. How it’s done- Apply Sebastian Mousse Forte to damp hair. Give a rough blow dry.. Subtle curls are done with a large barrel curl iron or flat iron, with a shy amount of Morrocan oil rake through the waves with hands to create the right amount of undoneness. Spray Sebastian Shaper Hairspray for hold. Results, a very cool mess.

2)Voluminous Blow-outs.
On damp hair apply Sebastian Mousse Forte. This style is best for long or medium hair. Section hair and blow dry with a medium round brush, be sure to point the dryer nozzle downward pressing the hair cuticle down. This creates shine and eliminates frizz. Use heat, then set with the cool button for curl hold. Release and tousle.

3)Embellished Updos
How it’s done- create a soft tousled updo of your choice. Adorn hair with your choice of flowers, hair pins, barrettes, pearls or feathers….

More men coloring their hair

An increasing number of men are dyeing their hair, whether to cover up gray for professional reasons or just to look cool.

by By Kavita Daswani | Special to the Los Angeles Times

For most men, it’s about staying competitive in a youth-focused workplace. For others, it’s a need to keep up with new young wives. And for some, well, they just like the sleek black tops on those “Jersey Shore” boys.

These are among the reasons stylists say that more men — including those in their late 40s and older and those at senior corporate levels — are dyeing their hair, shedding the shame that was once attached to the practice.

Hair salons across the board — from inexpensive chains to ritzy Beverly Hills places — are noticing a rise in the number of men coming in for color treatments, hoping that covering the gray will help them hang onto jobs or put them on the fast-track at work.

Should I use Box Colour? by Ivonne

That shiny little box needs to work no matter who picks it up off the shelf… If a 16 year old girl wants to change her colour, if a soccer mom wants to cover her gray hair, if your grandma feels she needs a “tint”.

The ingredients and pigments in box colour is totally different and way harsher on your hair than professional salon-grade colour. That’s why it’s cheaper. It’s also usually way too strong and you won’t always get the colour you wanted or saw on the box.

Salon colour is custom mixed and blended for you by a person who knows her stuff. Example: What kind of colour you is best for you based on your needs, do you need permanent color, semi-permanent or just a little bit of shine. But most of all what colour will enhance your feature.

Hairstylist only want to make you feel and look beautiful!!!

Having problems with static hair? by Carl Youman

Having problems with static hair?Carl Youman II

What about hair that is lacking shine? Sebastian Liquid Gloss is the answer! Just 2-3 drops worked through damp hair will do the trick. If a little more shine and control is needed, one more drop on dry hair is great!!!

Skin Care Tips by Lucy Petrova

Lets talk about taking good care of our skin during the colder winter months.

It is very easy to notice that  the majority of facial concerns of my clients during this time of  the year  revolves around increased dryness, dehydration and overall dull appearance of the skin all over the body. Many factors during this season contribute to this situation, like drastic temperature changes and decreased humidity inside our homes from running heaters. In attempt to stay warm, we take extremely hot showers and very often we find ourselves drinking less water, replacing it with hot chocolate and delicious lattes. Here are some helpful tips on how You can help your skin stay healthy and well hydrated this season:

1: Bathe

• Take a shower or bath in warm water, not hot, and ideally for 5 or more minutes to load your skin with water.

• Water temperature is important.  To treat dry skin use warm, not hot, water to bathe.  Washing your skin is just like doing the dishes in that hot water cuts oil better     and you don’t want that because it dries out your skin.

2: Mild soap only and use it sparingly!

• Bathe with only mild soaps and warm water.  Strong soaps remove too much of your natural skin oils, just like hot water does.  I recommend naturally made soaps that have natural soap glycerin still in them, or soaps made from glycerin alone.

• Glycerin based cleansers are different than regular soap because they help hold water to your skin and they’re less efficient at removing skin oils.  Unfortunately most commercial soaps have the glycerin removed, leaving a very drying product.  Adding an oil or ‘cold cream’ to a drying soap doesn’t compensate, so don’t fall for the sales pitches, just find a glycerin rich product. CETAPHIL CLEANSER FOR ATOPIC SKIN is ideal product to try . For the face I would personally recommend IMAGE  VITAL C HYDRATING CLEANSER. It is perfect for colder month, helps with eczema  and will leave the skin beyond hydrated! INTAGLIO FACE AND BODY CLEANSER AHA 3 will provide additional exfoliation during shower which will help to lock in even more moisture afterwards!

• Also, just soap up the parts of your skin with body odor glands unless you’ve gotten really dirty.  Even the most gentlest products do strip oils and can dehydrate your skin. So limit their use to three-two times per week. That means armpits, groin, buttocks and feet.  Be sure to rinse well too to remove all the soap residue.

3: Apply your moisturizer within 3 minutes after toweling dry after every bath or shower.

• Bathing loads your skin with water.  Trapping it with a moisturizer is how you treat dry skin.  You don’t need a heavy, thick layer of moisturizer to do the job.  Just cover your skin with a nice, thin layer of product that it can easily absorb.  It traps the water and the oil soaks into your skin.  This is what moist skin is, really!

• If your skin is just dry and flaky then get all the hydrating and skin softening benefits of AHA’s (alpha hydroxy acids) by picking a moisturizer with glycolic acid or lactic acid.  It will work even better than plain moisturizers.  One great moisturizer is IMAGE BODY SPA REJUVENATING LOTION. It contains whole 10%  of glylic acid, retinal palmitate, and lots of sheer and jojoba seed oil!

• If your skin is so dry that it’s cracked, itchy or painful then use a moisturizer with soothing water binding ingredients like rich oils, sheer butter, glycerin and possibly also lanolin. Try CETAPHIL SKIN RESTORING MOISTURIZER . It is non-greasy, has no preservatives and has lots of sheer butter, ceramides and glycerin to lock the moisture!

The Bottom Line: You treat dry skin from the outside in.  Don’t get me wrong, drinking water is good for your body, so do it.  But don’t look for ‘8 glasses of water a day’ to fix your dry skin.  Only in the extreme, when a person is massively dehydrated to the point that their level of dehydration is a health risk, will their skin be limp, flaccid, lusterless and dry because they’re thirsty. The dry skin that most people suffer from is caused by dryness on the outside and the fix is with the right skin care.

Hair Tips by Katie Dryden

1. Sometimes we are so caught up in the hustle and bustle of life that we forget about taking care of ourselves. Everyone deserves to feel special and there’s no time like the present to start looking and feeling your best. Something as simple as bangs can radically alter your entire look. Bangs are nature’s Botox, covering up forehead wrinkles and bringing the focus to the eyes.

2. A good way to relieve stress is to treat yourself to some pampering.  Many salons have affordable services that will make you feel good without hurting your wallet.  The “blowout” is a current hair trend that women are benefiting from.  A weekly blowout is an affordable luxury that is perfect for clients on the go or financially conscious.

Basic Hair Care Tips by Danielle Sanzotta

Danielle Sanzotta

Here are some basic hair care tips that you can use to improve the health and look of your hair, from Master stylist Danielle Sanzotta.

A healthy lifestyle will mean healthier hair for you. Excessive stress, smoking, not exercising and not eating nutritiously are not healthy for your hair.

Be sure to get enough sleep.

Hair Products
(Gel, mouse, hair spary…)  Avoid using too much of hair styling products with alcohol which can dry out your hair.

Avoid puting hair styling products directly on your scalp; if you put it on your scalp you’ll clog the pores on your head.

Swimming
Before entering a pool, wet your hair so your hair will soak up the initial water instead of the chlorinated water.

When swimming where a cap to protect your hair from chlorinated water, if you choose not to wear a cap make sure you shampoo and condition your hair right after you are done swimming.

Drying
Hot air can be damaging to your hair so when using a hair dryer use the cool or medium setting.

Don’t leave the blowdryer in one spot for more than a few seconds, keep it moving and at a good distance away from your hair.

To speed up the drying process, pat your hair dry with a towel and let the remaining moisture in your hair dry naturally.

Gently use your fingers or a pick to untangle any knots while your hair is drying.

Professional Vs. Over The Counter Hair Products by Danielle Sanzotta

  1. Many people ask, what is the difference aside from cost between professional and over-the counter (OTC) products? Its actually pretty scientific… they affect the pH of your hair. Your hair is an acid. Professional shampoos keep you within your hairs natural pH level with the exception of clarifiers which are meant to strip the hair.  Many OTC shampoos make your hair alkaline. Thats the same thing that happens with chemicals.
  2. What does alkaline do? Well what happens to your hair is it opens up. This can make you love your new OTC shampoo at first because your hair looks very full. The problem is when your hair stays blown open it gets weak and it snaps. A perm makes your hair an alkaline but after its rinsed, we put on a neutralizer which brings your pH back down. Some OTC shampoos have actually been found to do more damage to your hair than color or perms and you don’t even know it.
  3. Conditioners. I often hear people don’t want to use them because they weigh their hair down. After someones tried OTC cond. and got limp locks its hard to convince them that won’t be the case with the correct professional conditioner. Conditioner is essential to keep your hair healthy unless of course yours is mostly wax. Some OTC conditioners can be frozen and if you had put a wic in there you would have a candle. Gross. I actually had a client who was about 10 yrs. old..her hair looked matted and when I touched it wax came off on my hand. I asked the mother if she was using ___ cond. (I will not name OTC brands). She was shocked that I knew that. The truth is she had come to me because she left her last stylist for not being able to do anything with her daughters hair…no one could of. It had to be stripped numerous times. Now is it worth saving maybe $7 to buy the cond. than the price of the salon services to fix your hair?
  4. A little known fact is most salons will not guarantee their chemical services unless you are using a professional product..and it’s not because they are money hungry, its more for the fact that the OTC brands will ruin our hard work.

Casey’s new “before and after” pictures

After being blonde for a long time, Brittany wanted a change. She wanted to go back to her original color with some sporatic blonde highlights. I foiled out some blonde packets, focusing around the face and applied a warm brown color to the remainder of the hair in small sections to get a nice even application.

“Hair Care Tips for Curly Hair” by Casey

-Limit shampooing your hair to no more than twice a week. Shampooing strips your hair of its natural oils.

-Use a conditioner every time after you shampoo to re-moisturize your hair geared towards curly hair.

-Use a leave-in conditioner on your hair daily or every other day.

-Avoid using narrow/fine toothed combs and brushes. Use wide-toothed combs instead which has less of a tendency to cause breakage, frizzing and won’t disturb the integrity of your curl.
